Therapeutic Cupping
Cupping is an ancient healing method used throughout the world. The modern day use of cupping is predominantly based on traditional Chinese medical theory and our understanding of lymphatic drainage.
Unlike other hands-on therapies, cupping removes pressure from the treatment area. Almost all other body work involves applying pressure to a muscle or joint. By removing pressure from an injured tissue, cupping is far better at promoting blood flow and lymphatic drainage. This in turn, decreases swelling and pain and speeds up healing. Cupping is amazingly useful in cases of stubborn musculoskeletal issues like tendonitis, frozen shoulder, and muscle scar tissues. Yet it is gentle enough to move lymph congestion or be used cosmetically to improve facial skin tone. Clients often prefers it over acupuncture or deep tissue work.
Cupping may leave some light discoloration where there is strong muscle pathology. However, when done properly, cupping does not cause any bruising. Cupping decreases stress response in the body and leaves it feeling warmed, flexible, and calm. This is a favorite treatment among clients who previously prefered deep tissue massage.
