Intravenous Infusion Therapy (IVIT) Clinic Inspection…Pass

This is the most exciting new for this perfectionist in a long time.  Getting Bayview Naturopathic Wellness ready for clinic inspection took almost 6 months.  In March 2017, the College of Naturopaths of Ontario, the regulatory body for all licensed naturopaths in this province, began rolling out a program to inspect all clinic premise that perform IVIT.  To ensure better patient care and safety, each premise is checked for:

  • physical environment,
  • preparedness,
  • infection control,
  • sterile compounding,
  • adverse events,
  • charting,
  • administration by IVIT,
  • delegation, and
  • quality management

Majority of the safety feature were already in place prior to the inspection program.

  • clean compounding (mixing) of IV solution
  • emergency medications
  • oxygen tank and mask
  • yearly CPR
  • sterile needle insertion
  • proper storage of IV infusates (ingredients)
  • universal precaution

The improved patient care features include :

  • flowhood for compounding (mixing) IV solutions
  • fully gowned for compounding IV solutions ( i.e. gown, mask, gloves, etc)
  • Automatic External Defibrillator on site
  • all IV material under lock and keys to avoid tampering
  • Clinic Operation Manual created specific to Bayview Naturopathic Wellness, written and assembled by yours truly.  This involved combing over volumes of government regulations and ensuring all clinic policies are compliant.

This was a stressful and difficult process, but patient safety and treatment efficacy is top priority.  Now that Bayview Naturopathic Wellness has passed inspection, I can honest say it was well worth the effort.

Germany Cancer Conference

I am really excited to be attending an international cancer conference this September in Germany.  The conference focuses on alternative cancer therapies and how they are used in conjunction with traditional cancer treatments (chemo, radiation, surgery).  All the attendees will have an opportunity to visit the local hospital and observe how patients are treated using intravenous Vit C and mistletoe therapies.   Bayview Naturopathic Wellness already offers these cancer treatment options, but it would be an eye opening experience to see it done in a hospital setting and to hear the latest research.

FABNO (Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology) Accreditation in Progress

This is more of a heads up than an announcement.  I am actively working towards achieving this accreditation in oncology (cancer medical science).  FABNO certification is handed out by the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians to recognize advanced training of Naturopathic Doctors in Oncology.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, we are not permitted to state a specialization.  This accreditation would only be an indication of a committed interest in a specific area of medicine.

After tallying the sum of oncology courses and patient care experience, I have decided to pursue this accreditation.  It will take some time to complete, however, I am looking forward to further beefing up my knowledge pool.

What will this mean for you, the client?  Continued excellence in care, but even more up to date with all the latest research and better leverage to communicate with medical oncologists.  Evidence based naturopathic cancer care means more patients will feel confident to access all therapies (natural and conventional) in their healing process.
